Soulless, clueless tycoons must never again get so close to destroying football

A sorry bunch

THEY’RE sorry now. They’re eating humble pie now. But who trusts the owners of the “Big Six” not to concoct another plot once the dust settles?

The fans’ revolt gave them the shock of their cosseted lives. That doesn’t mean their greed is sated nor their demands over. Expect more, imminently.

They deserve no hearing. They should spend years in disgrace trying to persuade supporters they’re worthy of their historic clubs. It’s too late for most.

Boris Johnson will relish being blamed by Juventus’ chief for collapsing the Super League. His robust threats certainly gave fans some legal heft. But he must go further to keep football safe.

The Government’s major review of the sport’s running cannot come fast enough.

Soulless, clueless tycoons must never again get so close to destroying it.

Labour’s rank

THE only stink surrounding the PM’s texts to James Dyson is one of desperation from a Labour Party now in freefall.

It is not a “scandal” that Boris promised the tycoon his Singapore-based workers would pay no extra tax if they came here to make emergency ventilators during the initial Covid panic. In the end Dyson swallowed a £20million loss.

Keir Starmer is now screaming ‘sleaze’ after screaming at Tories to secure ventilators from anywhere[/caption]

Back then Labour were screaming at the Tories to secure ventilators and PPE from anywhere. Boris did. Now Keir Starmer screams “sleaze”.

It is juvenile, hypocritical, an insult to voters’ intelligence and a rookie error Tony Blair says he wouldn’t have gone near.

A sharp antenna for public opinion won Blair three elections.

At this rate Starmer, massacred by Boris in the Commons yesterday, may struggle to keep his job.

Gateway drugs

THE EU’s trashing of our stellar vaccine rollout was a blatant face-saving PR exercise.

Behind the scenes, its officials cite our success as the reason to open borders to the Brit tourists they desperately need.

Brussels is still not learning from its failure[/caption]

The data is impossible to dispute. Our massive jabs programme has helped drive infections down to levels many EU countries will take months to match.

But Brussels is still not learning from its failure.

French vaccine-maker Valneva has ended negotiations with the EU after no “meaningful progress”.

Can it possibly be it is simply incapable of handling a crisis for 27 nations?

Our eco heroes

WE all want a cleaner planet. Today The Sun honours a few heroes going the extra mile to make it happen.

From the teenage litter-picker from Gloucestershire to the tree-planters of Barnsley, they’re setting an example to us all.

Especially today: Earth Day.
