Mourinho reveals why Carlos Vinicius was not in squad to face Everton

0 4

Jose Mourinho has admitted that his decision to leave out Carlos Vinicius of the matchday squad for Tottenham’s trip to Everton was a tactical one.

Vinicius has found opportunities in the Premier League difficult to come by all season, with 9 of the striker’s 10 goals so far this campaign coming in the Europa League and domestic cup competitions.

Reports indicate that Tottenham have decided not to take up the £36m option to sign the Brazilian on a permanent basis at the end of the season and are instead looking at other potential options that can serve as a back up to Harry Kane.

Sources from Portugal have even claimed that Wolves might decide to make an offer to Benfica for the 26-year-old if Spurs do not take up the option to buy him.

The fact that the striker failed to even make the bench for Tottenham’s trip to Goodison Park yesterday does not bode well for his chances of remaining in North London next season.

When asked after the game whether Vinicius was injured, Mourinho told Football.London: “It was a tactical decision. We went with two strikers on the pitch.

“We had Dele, we had Gareth Bale, we had Lamela and Lucas to eventually come into these two positions of mobility and we decided to leave Carlos out but not injured. Only two play.”
