‘Put his foot down’ – Hoddle claims Kane will make decision on future, not Levy

0 8

Glenn Hoddle has claimed that Tottenham might not be able to do anything to stop Harry Kane from leaving the club if the striker decides that he wants to move.

Reports indicate that Kane will push to leave the club if they fail to qualify for the Champions League for a second season running.

However, several journalists, including Alasdair Gold and Fabrizio Romano, have suggested that Daniel Levy will not allow the 27-year-old to leave without a fight.

The Daily Mail has claimed that Levy will refuse any offer for Kane from a domestic rival while other European giants might be put off by Tottenham’s valuation of the striker.

Peter Crouch, who has first-hand experience of dealing with Levy, has insisted that the Spurs chairman will not budge on his demands even if Kane feels that he wants to try a new challenge.

However, Hoddle admitted that he sees things differently, suggesting that the final decision regarding his future will be up to the England captain himself.

The legendry Spurs midfielder said on The Glenn Hoddle Footy Show Podcast (as relayed by The Sun): “I think he is the one who will make that decision and Spurs will have to get the best deal they can. But it would be a crushing blow.

“Losing a quality player like Kane would be a setback to any club. I do not know whether it is in Tottenham’s hands.

“I think it is Harry Kane’s decision at the end of the day, to put his foot down and say he wants to go somewhere else and win trophies.

“There are only a few clubs able to afford him, that’s his problem. There could be a little game of chess.

“If Erling Haaland goes to Manchester City that blocks that, if Kylian Mbappe goes to Real Madrid, maybe there is an opening at Paris Saint-Germain.

“I would not like to see him go to PSG to be honest. I’d prefer him to stay — but I would not blame him if he did look elsewhere.

“In an ideal world, I know Harry loves Tottenham and wants to stay to win trophies.

“If they win the Carabao Cup, does he see that as a key moment in the club’s modern history and say, ‘This is a stepping stone to go and get some success’.”

Spurs Web Opinion

The fact that Kane still has three years left to run on his contract means that the decision is not just in his hands. While it goes without saying that most Spurs fans would not begrudge the striker if he wanted to leave in order to win trophies, the reality is that Levy is unlikely to sell him if his valuation is not met.
