Report: Tottenham leading race for former Manchester United player

0 5

ESPN have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are leading the race to sign West Bromwich goalkeeper Sam Johnstone.

Previous reports have claimed that Hugo Lloris could be set for a return to Ligue 1 in the summer and Johnstone is said to be one of the names Tottenham are eyeing as a potential replacement for the Frenchman.

Some Spurs fans on social media are divided on the idea of landing the West Brom number one, with a few suggesting that he is not of the required quality while others have claimed that he could offer competition to Lloris.

It has been revealed that the goalkeeper available for around £7.5m to £10m this summer if the Baggies are relegated to the Championship.

ESPN has now also suggested that around £10m could be enough to get Johnstone in the summer if the Baggies fail to beat the drop.

The report claims that the England international is regarded as a reliable, and inexpensive, option to challenge or replace Lloris this season.

It is suggested that West Ham and Leeds United are also tracking the former Manchester United academy graduate but it is Tottenham who are said to be at the front of the queue to sign Johnstone.

Spurs Web Opinion

If and when Lloris decides to call time on his Spurs career, I do not expect us to sing a proven world-class goalkeeper to take his place. Instead, we might have to sign up and coming goalkeepers and nurture them into being the future number one. If that is the case, Johnstone would fit the bill and could turn out to be a bargain for the mooted price.
