Real Salt Lake wrapped up their preseason with a 1-0 loss to the LA Galaxy.

Real Salt Lake wrapped up their preseason with a 1-0 loss to the LA Galaxy, courtesy of a goal from Victor Vazquez in the first half. They’ll now turn focus to their season opener in a couple weeks as they take on Minnesota United.

Anderson Julio had a good look in the 15th minute when he collected the ball and approached the goal from the right side. He fired off a quick shot but it hit the side netting. Good attacking play from RSL early in the game regardless.

RSL got another good look when Justin Meram collected a pass over the top and let a left-footed shot rip from the left side of the goal. LA’s keeper was able to parry it away, but Julio followed it up with another shot that was deflected by a defender sliding in at the last second.

The Galaxy got the opening goal before halftime when Victor Vazquez capitalized on some great buildup play from the LA side. Chicharito had a big role in it as he collected a long pass with a cheeky spin move to head toward goal. After a quick give-and-go with Sebastian Lletget, Chicharito’s shot was blocked but it fell straight to Vazquez who was able to slot it in past Ochoa.

The Galaxy went into the halftime break with a 1-0 lead.

RSL shouted for a penalty midway through the second half when Julio was on a breakaway with the ball and appeared to be pulled down in the box. The referee didn’t blow the whistle or point to the spot, so play continued on.

Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the remaining time and the game ended 1-0 with the Galaxy on top.
