Lloris names key factor that has sparked Tottenham revival for Dele Alli

0 2

Tottenham captain Hugo Lloris has backed Dele Alli to put his struggles this season behind him and help the club’s push for silverware.

The midfielder was ready to quit the north London club in January after a very public falling out with Jose Mourinho.

A chance to join up with former boss Mauricio Pochettino at PSG looked to be the cards, only for nothing to materialise.

However, a recent revival has seen the England man start two of the club’s last three games.

Alli had a hand in the winning goal at Fulham on Thursday night, when his strike was deflected home, and is expected to be handed a starting role again against Crystal Palce on Sunday night.

With Alli now back in the fold, Lloris praised his “professionalism” and determination to force his way back.

Lloris told a report in the Daily Mirror: “As a teammate, he’s always been professional. He put his disappointment on the side and from day one in the second part of the season, after the transfer market closed, he switched on and he started to step by step improve his fitness and get as much confidence as he can.

“I don’t want to talk about January. It’s his personal situation and I don’t want to talk on behalf of the club, I’m not the right person to do it. Now he’s coming back and that’s good for the team and obviously the best for the season is ahead of us.

“The confidence is coming back into the team so that’s one point that’s very important. And obviously when you see important players coming back today, like Dele and Gareth Bale again.

“For different reasons they could not play at the level they wanted to help the team [previously]. But it was the case at Fulham [that they did] and that’s good for the team and for the club.”

Anything is still possible

Tottenham are in the last 16 of the Europa League, have a Carabao Cup final to look forward too and remain the race for a top-four spot.

And Lloris admits there is plenty still to play for, adding: “For some reason there has been ups and downs in our performance. But we’re still looking forward to improve things and get better.

“And you know, we still believe we can finish high in the table, we’re still in the race. But it’s difficult obviously.

“We’ve missed points but with 12 games to go anything is possible and we need to believe.”
