Arsenal have Man Utd target in mind if contract talks with star fail
Arsenal have Eintracht Frankfurt’s Andre Silva on their radar as a potential replacement for striker Alexandre Lacazette, according to a report.
Exit speculation has surrounded Frenchman Lacazette for some time now, but stepped up in recent days.
Past rumours claimed that Atletico Madrid showed interest, while more recently, Monaco reportedly entered the hunt.
In any case, Gunners boss Mikel Arteta has said that contract talks with the 29-year-old “will happen”, with his deal running out next summer.
Arteta added on Thursday that he will “see what happens”. However, fresh reports claim that he is planning for Lacazette’s exit.
Calciomercato reports that Arsenal have Silva on their radar as a potential replacement.
The 25-year-old has shown explosive form this season, scoring 19 goals in 21 Bundesliga games for Frankfurt.
Indeed, he has enjoyed a marked rise in form after failing to find a role at AC Milan. The Portugal international spent one year in Italy before signing for Sevilla and Frankfurt on loan.
He then signed permanently for the German club in September last year and has not looked back.
But as well as Arsenal, previous reports have claimed that Manchester United have shown interest in Silva.
The Red Devils are supposedly after a top attacking signing this summer. As such, Frankfurt will reportedly offer Silva to United, but Edinson Cavani must leave and not take up his one-year extension option at Old Trafford.
In any case, though, Frankfurt are flexible about selling Silva. They have plans to make Luka Jovic’s loan move back to Germany from Real Madrid in January permanent.
Arteta irked by UEFA decision
Meanwhile, Arteta has voiced his frustration at UEFA’s decision to swap Tottenham’s Europa League ties ahead of next Sunday’s north London derby.
The local rivals had both been drawn away from home for the Europa League round of 16. But under governing body rules, two clubs from the same city cannot play on the same day.
As such, Spurs’ tie has been swapped while Arsenal’s will remain the same, causing Arteta concern.
