[Men's Soccer] SAU falls in double-overtime to Cougars

0 3

Two goals weren't enough for St. Ambrose Tuesday afternoon as they fell 3-2 in double-overtime against Saint Xavier University at the TBK Sports Complex in Bettendorf, Iowa.

The Bees got on the scoresheet first with Justin Tackett finding Juan Diego in the 31st minute for the 1-0 lead. Just two minutes later, Daniel Reinoso found the back of the net to give SAU a 2-0 lead. St. Ambrose wouldn't have any other chances on goal in the first half, and Saint Xavier would get a goal back just before halftime to cut the lead to one.

The Cougars would find the tying goal in the second half, scoring in the 53rd minute. SAU had a couple of chances to take back the lead but couldn't finish the opportunities as the game would head into overtime.

Saint Xavier had the only two shots in the first overtime period, but one went wide and the other was stopped by Piercarlo Ricossa. Ricky Rueda had the best chance for the Bees in the second overtime, but his shot was tipped by the keeper and hit off the post. The Cougars would find the winner in the 106th minute.

Ricossa had five saves in the loss.

St. Ambrose will host another conference opponent on Saturday when they take on Cardinal Stritch at 1 p.m. in Davenport.
