‘One of our own’ – Some Spurs fans react as former player gets one over on Arsenal

Some Spurs fans on social media were delighted to see Kyle Walker-Peters play a major part in the goal that saw Southampton eliminate Arsenal from the FA Cup in the fourth round clash on Saturday.

Walker-Peters spent seven years at Tottenham and rose through the ranks in the academy but he only managed to make a handful of senior appearances for the club.

After impressing on loan at St Mary’s during the second half of last season, Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men paid £12m to snap up the right-back in the summer.

It has certainly proven to be money well spent so far as the 23-year-old has established himself as a key part of the Saints outfit and has been one of their most consistent performers.

The England Under-21 international certainly knows how fierce the rivalry is between the two North London clubs and he further endeared himself to Spurs fans by helping Southampton to overcome the Gunners 1-0.

Although the strike went down as a Gabriel Magalhaes own goal, with the Brazilian deflecting the right-back’s low cross into his own net, Tottenham fans were certainly delighted to see their former academy star get one over on the old enemy.

Spurs Web Opinion

Many fans on social media seem to be suggesting in hindsight that we should not have let Walker-Peters go. However, the reality is that we might not have got Hojbjerg if we had not agreed to let the right-back go the other way. All in all, it looks like a fabulous piece of business for both clubs.
