Namibia depart for CHAN competition

Namibia have arrived at African Nations Championship in Cameroon, after their preparations were curtailed by an outbreak of the COVID-19 virus to take on Guinea in their opening game on Tuesday.

The Namibians travelled via Johannesburg and Addis Ababa to Yaounde where they also face Zambia, and Tanzania in Group D in Limbe.

Their second game is against Tanzania on January 23 and complete their group campaign against neighbours Zambia on January 27.

The Brave Warriors had their preparations disrupted due to the pandemic after 10 players and a coach tested positive for the novel coronavirus but have all since recovered and were negative in their final round of testing before departing.

“I would say that the spirit in the camp is very high, everyone is ready to go out there and fight. Despite COVID-19 disturbing our preparations, I believe every single team that’s taking part in the competition have been facing the same difficulties,” coach Bobby Samara told local reporters before departure.

The squad:

Goalkeepers: Edward Maova, Ratanda Mbazuvara, Kamaijanda Ndisiro

Defenders: Charles Hambira, Jonas Mateus, Emilio Martin, Vitapi Ngaruka, Ivan Kamberipa, Pat-Nevin Uanivi, Aprocious Petrus, Gregory Aukumeb, Johannes Mutanga, Erasmus Ikeinge
