“What a piece of rubbish” – Rio Ferdinand unimpressed with what he saw from Chelsea v Spurs

The clash between Chelsea and Tottenham was billed as one of the biggest of the season so far, with both teams potentially being in the conversation for the title race.

Apart from being a big London derby, the clash also saw Jose Mourinho returning to his former stomping ground and taking on his prodigy, Frank Lampard.

Additionally, the two clubs came into the clash as the two highest-scoring teams in the Premier League and it looked like excitement was guaranteed.

However, the game was not a particularly entertaining watch for neutrals, with neither side creating too many clear cut chances.

While the tactical battle between the two coaches was fascinating, the attacking quality on show failed to shine through.

Rio Ferdinand insisted that neither Tottenham nor Chelsea pushed hard for a winner as both sides were scared of making a mistake.

The former Manchester United defender said on his YouTube channel, Rio Ferdinand Presents FIVE: “What a piece of rubbish. Rubbish game. Boring game.

“But that’s the way it is, isn’t it? Sometimes, these big games, you go into it and you’re eagerly waiting for things to happen and it just fizzles out. Two teams just don’t go for as much you want them to as a fan but I understand it.

“Sometimes, when you play in these big games where there is a lot riding on it, who is going to go top, there’s pressure.

“No one wanted to go for it. I don’t think either team really let themselves off the leash and really really went for the jugular.”

Ferdinand insisted that both Lampard and Mourinho would have pleased to come away from the match with a point.

He went on to add: “It was just a game that fizzled out and the pressure just told on both teams. They were both, I’m sure, content with a draw at the end of the game.

“Two teams who I think are going to be up there in the mix.

“Definitely for Champions League places and as for title aspirations that remains to be seen but I think Frank and Jose will quietly pleased with their weekend’s work.”
