ACC Cancels Duke-Florida State
As Covid-19 strikes again
The ACC has just canceled the Duke-Florida State game this coming Saturday due to Covid-19 issues in the Florida State football program. In its place, Duke will play Miami. The game will still be held in Wallace Wade.
It’s been a difficult and improvised season that in many ways has been nothing but bizarre as Covid has roiled plans and schedules across the country. Florida State has now had to cancel three consecutive games - Clemson, Virginia and now Duke. We’re sure their player are devastated to have to sit for almost a month. Naturally, players want to, well, play.
And after causing havoc in college football, it’s now doing the same to basketball. About all we can do now is to hope that it burns itself out and that the vaccines actually do work. And of course losing football games is trivial compared to losing loved ones. Football players are disappointed but none have died. In the grand scheme of things, missing games is not that big a deal.
That said, sooner this thing is gone the better. And this whole idea that things will never be the same? Well, maybe not, but human nature reaches for stasis. We will find a steady way to live and the exuberance of not dealing with this anymore will be wonderful to witness and take part in.
