Pundit claims joining Premier League rivals would be ‘a great’ move for Spurs star

Former West Ham United striker, Francis McAvennie believes that joining Everton would be a great move for Dele Alli, who has fallen down the pecking order at Tottenham.

Most of Alli’s game time this season has come in the Europa League, with the midfielder not having started a Premier League match since the opening day defeat to Everton (Transfermarkt.com).

Dele was handed a start against Ludogorets on Thursday and served a timely reminder of what he can produce, albeit against sub-standard opposition.

The England international showed glimpses of his old self as he made intelligent runs off the ball and was involved in some smart link-up play in the final third.

Alli played a big part in Tottenham’s first goal before setting up Carlos Vinicius for a tap in for Spurs’ second of the night.

Reports earlier in the week indicated the Everton were plotting potential moves for both Alli and Harry Winks when the transfer window reopens in January.

When asked about the rumours, McAvennie told Football Insider: “Would they want to take the two of them? I do not know if they would sign both.

“Dele Alli is going to leave as he is not going to get a game at Spurs this season.

“Jose has told him, ‘You work your socks off or you are not going to get in this team.’

“You know what you are getting with Mourinho because he tells you. If you are not doing it well, there is nobody bigger than Jose.

“Listen, he has to move and Everton would be a great team for him. I can see it. But Ancelotti will not let him get away with anything there either.”
