‘Another game’ – Mourinho plays down significance of his return to Stamford Bridge

Jose Mourinho has claimed that he views Tottenham’s clash against Chelsea as just another game and that the return to Stamford Bridge does not hold any special significance for him.

Mourinho is arguably the most successful manager in Chelsea’s history, having won three league titles with Blues across two different spells, as well as multiple domestic cups.

However, the Portuguese coach’s second spell at the club ended rather unceremoniously, with the players reportedly downing tools.

The 58-year-old has since been booed on his return to Stamford Bridge with Manchester United but he insisted that he does not have extra motivation to get one over his former employers.

When asked about the return to his old stomping ground, the Tottenham boss told Football.London: “It’s another game for me, it’s another game for me. No problem at all.”

While the game may not have special significance for Mourinho, it is certainly significant in the title race with Tottenham currently sitting top of the table, just two points above Chelsea in third.

However, Mourinho admitted that he is not paying any attention to the league table and he just wants his side to get three points on Sunday.

He added: “Maybe we don’t go top of the league there, maybe Liverpool gets a point or a victory at Brighton and then we don’t go there top of the league.

“I don’t even know that so going there top of the league or with Liverpool top doesn’t change anything for us.

“As I was saying since the beginning of the season, we are always contenders to win the next match. Nothing more than that. We are going to be there, three possible results. We know anything can happen, but we go there and our objective is to win the game.”
