Benfica Are Champions League Level Side – Steven Gerrard

0 5

Kemar Roofe’s 69th-minute strike doubled Rangers’ lead at Ibrox and they seemed to be heading towards three points before conceding two late goals against Benfica.

The Portuguese giants walked away from Ibrox with a point and Gerrard admits that the result was disappointing as Rangers were two goals ahead and in a good position to win the game.

However, feels that it was a positive result and stressed that at the end of the night it was the fair result as well as Rangers were never in control of the game and Benfica showed good quality to earn the point.

Gerrard, who feels Benfica are Champions League class, told Rangers TV: “I think when you get yourself in a position like we did, similar to a couple of weeks ago, you are always going to be slightly frustrated of course.

“But I think when the emotions settle, it will be a positive result and I think it’s the fair result over the 90 minutes.

“I felt even at 2-0 we probably didn’t deserve to be two in front, we didn’t feel like that we were in control of the game and taking into consideration we are playing a real top team who probably shouldn’t be in in the Europa League.

“They are a Champions League side in my opinion.”

Rangers are yet to seal qualification to the Europa League last 32, but on eight points from four games, they are in pole position to get it done in the last two games.
