Leeds signed the Germany international from Freiburg in the last window after it became clear that they would not be able to re-sign Ben White from Brighton.

 

The German has become a constant in the Leeds defence since his arrival and has played each minute of Leeds’ first nine Premier League games this season.

 

 

Leeds conducted a thorough background check on the 24-year-old before signing him and Orta admits that the environment he grew up in helped the club to make a judgment on Koch.

 

He stressed that one of the striking features of the defender that attracted the club to him was his constant development every year.

 

 

Orta admits that it impressed the club the way he moved up the football ladder and he is certain that Koch has a lot more potential to grow into in the next few years.

 

“He’s a player who’s growing”, Orta told The Atheltic.

 

 

“We analyse a lot of things like his father was at Kaiserslautern when they won the league.

 

“His dad’s a former player, his family is based in football and he has that atmosphere around him.

 

“He understands the environment.

 

“But one of the most impressive things about Robin is that each year he grows.

 

“He comes up from lower divisions, he plays in the Bundesliga, he plays in the Germany national team.

 

“You say he has a lot more potential? I agree with that.”

 

Koch has also become a regular in the Germany squad and has seven international caps to his name.
