‘Writing is probably on the wall’ – Former Spurs star makes Dele Alli prediction

Former Tottenham goalkeeper, Paul Robinson has said that he believes Dele Alli’s time at Spurs has come to an end and that he expects the midfielder to be sold.

There has been plenty of speculation over Alli’s future recently since he was left out of Tottenham’s matchday squad against Lokomotiv Plovdiv and Southampton, with reports indicating that the midfielder was set to leave on loan (Telegraph).

The 24-year-old started against Shkendija but was replaced by Harry Kane on the hour mark.

Jose Mourinho has said that he expects Alli to stay at the club beyond the end of the transfer window and that it is up to the midfielder to win his place back in the side (Football.London).

Robinson admitted that he has been surprised by how the England international’s fortunes have changed since Mourinho first took the job last November.

The pundit told Football Insider: “I’ve liked Dele for a long time but he’s 24 and he’s not done it for long enough now.

“When Jose first came in and Dele’s form started to pick up and he started to get goals, you could almost see a player-manager relationship that was growing there.

“I thought Jose could be the perfect fit for Dele because he’d been criticised for 12, 18 months, he’d not been getting the best out of himself.

“All of sudden a manager of Jose’s quality with his man-management ability, I thought it was going to be a perfect fit but it just hasn’t worked.”

The goalkeeper said that he expects the former MK Dons man to leave Spurs on the back of being left out of the matchday squad on a couple of occasions.

He added: “He was dragged off at half-time against Everton last week, left out the midweek squad, left out of the squad for the Southampton game, you don’t leave a player of Dele Alli’s quality out of the squad.

“Dele is more than good enough on that bench unless there’s an underlying reason. Unfortunately, I think the writing is probably on the wall for Dele. I think we will see him move on.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Some pundits and fans are being too quick to write Dele Alli off. He has started two matches this season. So, it is not as if he is entirely out of the first-team picture. Alli certainly has the ability and the self-belief to win his place back in the side and become an important player for us, while Jose has shown that he is willing to give second chances to players if they can prove themselves.
