It’s been a successful start to the season for Liverpool, with victories against Leeds and Chelsea in their first two Premier League fixtures of the 20/21 campaign.
But focus temporarily shifts away from the league as they take on League One side Lincoln City in the third round of the Carabao Cup.
The Reds’ priorities lie elsewhere this season – the Premier League and Champions League – but the competition provides another chance of silverware and an opportunity to give minutes to those on the periphery of the squad.
Lincoln are one of three sides to clinch wins in both their opening fixtures in League One and should be in good spirits before the game. But the reigning Premier League champions are undoubtedly favourites to progress to the fourth round.
The winner of the tie faces Arsenal at home in the week commencing September 28, which throws up the intriguing prospect of the Reds facing Mikel Arteta’s side twice in a week – with the two teams also set to meet in the Premier League the weekend before.

The likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Jordan Henderson, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip are unavailable for selection as they continue their rehabilitation from injury.
Liverpool’s other regular starters are unlikely to feature, with eleven changes and minutes for the Reds’ youngsters and fringe players expected.
However, assistant manager Pep Lijnders has insisted there will be a strong team out on the pitch, with Kostas Tsimikas and Diogo Jota hoping for their debuts. Fellow new signing Thiago, who made his debut at the weekend, could also be involved.
