[Women's Soccer] Falcons Blank McPherson 2-0 at Home

0 1

WICHITA, Kan. -- The Friends University Falcons women's soccer team tallied 14 shots on goal in their 2-0 victory over the McPherson Bulldogs on Saturday at Adair-Austin Stadium.

Hailey Stiverson put the Falcons on the board first in the 15th minute on a long feed pass from midfield. Stiverson finished the breakaway to beat Christie Silber for her first career goal.

"We need to use Haileys speed up top when we can. Very happy to see her get her first career goal," head coach, Brent Hobson said.

Angel Tran had a couple of chances late in the opening half to grow the Falcon lead, but the shots went just wide.

Early in the second half, Bayli Waters made it 2-0. Madison Edwards sent the ball into the box and Waters finished with a header into the back of the net. The Falcons dominated possession in the second half to put the game away.

"Overall we just wanted to be more dangerous in the attacking half," Hobson said.

Vanessa Aguilar led the way with a match-high three shots on goal, while Mackenzie Greer and Stiverson each finished with two apiece.

Maria Smyth picked up her second shutout in three starts this season.

"Maria has done really well so far. She works really hard in practice and is determined to get better every day" Hobson said. "I also have to give some credit to our backs (Jackie Ireland, Mackenzie Greer, Bayli Waters, and Hannah Watkins). They have done well."

The Falcons are back in action on Saturday, Sept. 26 in a matchup with the Bethany College Swedes in Lindsborg, Kan. The team will return to Adair-Austin Stadium on Oct. 3.
