Re: Ian Hambridge tributes 40 years after death of 'forgotten victim' of football hooliganism
I was there that day, in the Kop.
As I recall, Leeds needed to win to stay up and the trouble (in the ground) started when blues had the audacity to score. Many hundreds on the pitch, police horses, utter mayhem. I had never seen anything like it and hope I never shall again.
I didn’t know anything about the poor lad’s fate, nor about the Bradford fire, until much later that day.
Truly a dark day.
(Also happens to be the date my dad died 10 years ago so really not one of my favourite days of the year).
