McClaren is the best manager they've had since Nigel Clough, and his team that got to Wembley were decent. It's been downhill for them ever since, so they look back fondly on what might've been, if they hadn't sacked him... twice.
The real fly in the ointment seems to be Rooney, who wants the job himself and will undermine anyone else who comes in. It seems he's on some contract where they have to play him and can't get rid of him, because of the 32 Red deal. That's the real cause for celebration.
