Villa will not be forced to sell players next month as Smith's side battle to stay in the Premier League, as their annual accounting period ends on 31 May, giving them approximately two weeks after the end of the season to balance the books.
This is the loophole. They're gambling on staying up for one season. They can then sell players before 31 May to book income, and then spend the same amount again in June for next year's losses.
Basically, they're cheating fecks, as they've been since the 1880s.
