Hockey AGM & Club Awards 2019-20
As a result of the pandemic, the 2019-20 Hockey Section AGM was postponed and held online this year. A well attended event, it was great to see hockey members old and new. Thank you to all who could make it!
2019-20 Season
Despite coming to an abrupt end, there are still a number of hockey highlights from the 2019-20 season. Let’s take a look…
The Embers are current league champions and our Ladies 1s start this season back in South Division 1. Our ladies O35s team got the better of Canterbury for the first time and reached the semi-final of the Tier 1 Cup. Our men’s O50s are in the semi-final of theirs and our men’s O40s play their Tier 1 final this weekend!
In the junior section, our GU12s won their indoor hockey tournament at the Copper Box. Our GU16s now play at premier division level and we’ve seen a growth in numbers in our BU14s age group.
Back to hockey and walking hockey sessions continue to go from strength to strength. It’s great to see!
Lockdown
Lockdown was a challenging time and the resilience of the Club shone through with key workers across the club supporting the local community. Our junior and walking hockey members created ‘hockey at home’ drills and Gemma Tredwell provided us with online fitness sessions. All of these are available on our new YouTube channel. It was great to see teams keeping active and staying connected by virtual means.
The Club extends a huge thank you to all the volunteers who help throughout the season. In addition, thank you to everyone in getting our members back to Old Schools Lane as quickly and safely as possible. The Club continues to grow and is run by amazing volunteers. Club Awards
The Club Awards are nominated and awarded by the general Committee. This year we introduced ‘Volunteer of the Year’, taking the tally to ten awards.
These prestigious awards include top goal scorer, umpire, Club person, team and captain of the season, plus most improved young players, goalie of the year and the Chairman’s Cup for endeavour. Some have been in circulation since the 1970s!
