Silver Medalists and DeJaVu at today’s DAFM Studbook Series Final Qualifier

0 3

Fresh home from last week’s FEI Young Rider European Silver Medal, Max Foley showed his ability again on the national young horse circuit at today’s DAFM Studbook Series Final qualifier at National Balmoral. Foley managed foot perfect rounds on the Marion Hughes owned and bred five-year-old HHS Colorado (ISH) and six-year-old HHS Lexington (ISH). A real team effort from Hughes Horse Stud; Romana, Max’s groom, was delighted to claim the double groom’s prize. Both geldings are out of HHS Chantilly Lace (ISH) and will no doubt be a force to be reckoned with in the 5- and 6-year-old classes at next month’s RDS Dublin Horse Show.

The seven-year-old qualifier saw Gemma Phelan dominate, with three entered in the 42 strong class. Phelan took control from early on, ending in 1st, 2nd and 3rd position. GRC Casper (ISH) and GRC Mercedes (ISH), first and seconds respectively, are owned and bred by Rory Costigan and pulled off the exact same feat in the Maryville leg of the series – DeJa’Vu! My Private Dancer (ISH) in third is owned and bred by Hilda Anthony.

Today’s qualifier of the DAFM Studbook Series at National Balmoral saw some movement in the five- and six-year-old leagues.

Shane Dalton added points in today’s 5-year-old qualifier aboard the WSI Approved stallion Unicum – H totalling 20 points. However, they sit just outside of the top 25 to qualify for tomorrow’s final. The the Donal Cadden bred Kilbrackan Stakatto (ISH) piloted by Robyn Moran gained three points, putting them in second on 19 points ahead of tomorrow’s final. They are followed by Dean Rogan on MGC Carrow Kuhnstuck (15), Leah Stack on DCS Ballypatrick (ISH) (13) and Maria Vozone on HHS Evora (13) rounding out the 5-year-old league’s current top 5. Silver medal teammates Niamh McEvoy and Max Foley are tied for tomorrow’s young rider prize on 7 points each; with Foley going forward to jump in tomorrow’s final.

In the six-year-old league, Emer Kavanagh and MMS Alexa (ISH) (19) moved up to top of the table, one point ahead of Leah Stack on BP Hello Emerald (ISH) (18). Tholm Keane and Galwaybay Winningmood (ISH) are also sitting on 18 points, and after today’s 6th place finish will no doubt seek to stay in contention for the league winner prize. Conor Hayes (JU/YR) looks to be firmly ahead of the young riders with Gailes Dream Girl (ISH).

Shane Dalton and ESI Julius (ISH) sit atop the 7-year-old leaderboard on 13 points, Dermott Lennon and CMG Winchester (ISH) behind on 11, with five riders currently holding joint third on 10 points apiece. Max Foley is currently leading the chase to the young rider prize on 10 points, but all to play for with Cara McFadden entered in tomorrows final on Orville Jack (ISH) with 8!
