FRANKIE DETTORI has revealed The Queen’s mischievous side – while sending Her Majesty a get well soon message.

The legendary jockey said on This Morning that The Queen, 95, ‘looked tired’ when he saw her at Ascot the weekend before last.

The monarch spent a night in hospital last week and missed church service after a health scare.

And though conceding she seemed a little bit worn out at Ascot, Dettori, 50, revealed her razor sharp wit whenever they meet.

The Queen is a racing fanatic and her encyclopaedic knowledge of all her runners and riders if the stuff of legend.

But, Dettori said, that does not get in the way of her finding the time to have a laugh as well.

Host Phillip Schofield commented on the ‘real affection’ between Dettori and The Queen.

The jockey told the presenter and his co-host Holly Willoughby: “I hope she gets well soon because she is a wonderful lady. She has horses in my stable.

“I saw her last Saturday at the races and I must say she looked a little bit tired.

“She does a lot for this country, for the world.

“I heard she has been in hospital. I hope she gets well. She’s amazing, there is no other word to say what she is.

“Her knowledge [of horses and racing] is absolutely incredibly, what an amazing human being.

“She also likes a laugh and a joke – she’s funny!”

Dettori has previously said it is the ‘ultimate’ to ride a winner for The Queen.

He did so on Phantom Gold in the Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot in 1996.

And 25 years on he is still doing the business in the saddle for Her Majesty, notching two wins on the mightily impressive Reach For The Moon this season.

The Queen presents the Ascot Gold Cup – a race Dettori has won eight times – to the victor and he said there is nothing better than receiving a trophy from her.

Dettori added: “We’re very lucky to have a monarch who loves racing so much.

“It’s in her blood, it’s a tradition, and it can’t get any bigger than that.”
