Newmarket Tips: Cambridgeshire runners and riders – Your pinstickers’ guide to Saturday’s big handicap

WE’RE SIN the money at Newmarket.

SINJAARI was a scorching winner of the John Smith’s Cup at York last time and can follow up in the Cambridgeshire.

Tom Marquand’s mount was impressive on the Knavesmire and finished with plenty left despite not getting the clearest of runs. The handicapper hasn’t gone crazy with an 8lb rise and he will be right there again.

Tempus has been popular with punters and with good reason after his handy win over a mile at Ascot. There should be a lot more to come from Roger Charlton’s hope.

Fifth Position is another coming here with every chance after performing well at York.

Montatham and Sir Busker are regulars on the podium in big races like this and should be thereabouts again with the progressive Ilaraab another on the shortlist.

Sir Michael Stoute loves a big handicap win and teams up with Ryan Moore on Derevo who went close at Doncaster’s St Leger meeting.

CERTAIN LAD 2

LAD must grow. Won the Group 3 Strensall Stakes at York over this trip last time so has plenty of class. Has lots of weight because of that and is 9lb higher than his excellent second in the John Smith’s Cup. Will run well but tall order under 9st 12lb.

SIR BUSKER 3

BUSKER in tune. Now 15lb higher than when winning the Silver Hunt Cup at Royal Ascot but keeps running well and was second in a big York handicap before another solid effort at Goodwood. Should like this longer trip and has a place shout again.

MONTATHAM 3

TOP Mon. Won big York handicap two runs ago before a cracking Listed third at Sandown. Likes this track and longer trip should suit. Another with plenty of weight but goes on any ground and won’t be far away.

FIFTH POSITION 4

FIFTH gear. Has done all winning in smaller fields and shaped like longer than this would suit at York last time. But has few miles on the clock and capable of better.

BELL ROCK 3

ROCK solid. Champion jockey picks him over Sir Busker and he went well in a big field at Goodwood latest. Goes off same mark here and won well on last trip to Newmarket. On shortlist.

SINJAARI 5

SIN the money. Impressive John Smith’s Cup winner at York last time coming back from a long break. Stormed home after traffic problems and will finish strongly again. Major player.

AFAAK 1

AF to shift. Has been out of sorts this season and was again off the pace at Ascot latest. Needs more help from the handicapper.

AL RUFAA 3

AL’S yer pal. Hated the mud last time after three wins on the spin over 7f. Frankie takes over for in-form John Gosden and chance if seeing out this longer trip.

POWER OF DARKNESS 2

POWER cut. Looked rusty on return from year off when seventh here in June and has had another break. Trip should suit but has a bit to find.

BEAR FORCE ONE 1

BEAR bare. Won lesser race on July course and but below par there last time. Should stay but looks high in weights for what he’s done.

TEMPUS 4

HOT Temp. Two good wins this season over a mile and 4lb penalty for Ascot success earlier this month. Looks progressive and should enjoy this longer trip. Has been big market mover.

KING CARNEY 2

CAR can shift. Clocked personal best when a close third at Newbury off this mark over a mile last time. Needs to improve again but Charlie Fellowes’ horses are in good form.

DEREVO 3

VO can go. Consistent handicapper who went close again at Doncaster last time. Has plenty of stamina and goes on any ground. Sir Michael Stoute’s runner is respected.

CELTIC ART 1

ART attack. Didn’t stay 1m6f at Goodwood last time after modest handicap effort on comeback. This looks a tall order.

MAJESTIC DAWN 3

DAWN raid. Stone last at Kempton last time after a long break but was fifth in this last year off 5lb lower so could do better today. Big price if showing very best.

LUCANDER 3

TAKE a Luc. Landed big-field win at York last time and 4lb rise looks fair. Stays this trip well and goes on any ground. Place claims at a fair price.

ANYTHINGTODAY 2

NOTHING Today. Solid second in 19-runner contest at York last time and off the same mark today. Stays well but this is a lot tougher than that Knavesmire contest.

DUBAI MIRAGE 2

DUBAI bye. Now 10lb higher than when winning at Haydock last time and only a fair third at Sandown latest. Should improve for this longer trip and capable claimer on board. Needs more in this grade.

YOU’RE HIRED 2

YOU’RE fired. Good third off this mark at Goodwood last time but taking a fair hike in class today. Finished 11^th in this last year from 5lb lower and booked for a similar position again.

WALHAAN 1

BRICK Wal. Couple of decent runs at Ascot this season but has yet to win in the UK. Should improve for this longer trip but needs a fair bit more.

GOOD BIRTHDAY 3

BIRTHDAY treat. Clocked personal best when third in this last year but has been out of sorts on all seven starts this term. Has dropped right down weights so could outrun his hefty odds.

MUTAFANI 1

NOT Fani. Had training problems over past two seasons and this looks a tough race for comeback. Has yet to win in handicap company.

DATA PROTECTION 2

DATA error. Landed a couple of handicaps this season but struggled off this mark at Doncaster last time. Trip and track suit but needs to raise his game.

TULFARRIS 2

TUL of it. Made it a hat-trick of Ascot seconds last time when finishing well after missing the kick. That was a fair run after a long break but still looking for first win since moving over from France.

KRYPTOS 1

KRYPT sunk. Has few miles on the clock but struggled in lesser race at Sandown last time. Should like this trip but needs plenty of improvement.

ILARAAB 4

IL looks healthy. Progressive handicapper who picked up well when winning at Newbury last time. Relishes this trip and that was a decent race. Rising star Cieren Fallon takes the ride with a chance under a 4lb penalty.

ZHUI FENG 1

NO Zhui glee. Game veteran who won the Royal Hunt Cup at his best but hasn’t scored for more than two years. Coming down weights but has a lot on his plate and prefers a shorter trip.

BALGAIR 3

HAVE a Bal. Big improvement when winning over the amateur riders’ version of this over course and distance last weekend. Has a fair 6lb more today and looks a decent outsider.

WILD HERO 1

WILD child. Fair performer at much lower levels and went well at Chester last time. But is well out of the weights here and should struggle against these much better rivals.
