Love Island fans brand Maura a snake for ‘breaking girl code’ and cracking on with Curtis behind Amy’s back

LOVE Island fans have branded Maura Higgins a snake for breaking girl code by cracking on with Curtis Pritchard behind Amy Hart’s back.

The 28-year-old Irish grid girl revealed to Marvin Brooks that she didn’t want to pursue things, before opening up to the ballroom dancer about her feelings during last night’s episode- following a private dance lesson earlier in the day.

As she pulled Curtis, 23, for a chat she admitted: “This is a bit awkward for me. So obviously you were coupled up with Amy and when I came in here a lot of the girls asked me ‘who would you go for?’ and I said you.

“But I wouldn’t have done that because you were very strong and I wouldn’t have wanted to cause any trouble, but now you are single.

“And I just wanted to let you know that I do have feelings for you.”

Curtis couldn’t stop smiling and admitted to her he had sent her a message on Instagram before they even entered the villa.

He added: “You are a very attractive young lady and I would be lying if I didn’t say you were.”

Maura continued: “None of the other guys I was coupled up with worked for me and I don’t know if it was because you were in here and I just couldn’t kind of focus.”

Following the conversation, fans of the ITV2 show took to Twitter to criticise the Irish beauty for cracking on with Curtis so soon after he ended things with Amy.

One wrote: “Maura says she has girl code when she first came into the villa. Ummm so where’s the girl code this now with Amy!? She’s a snake! #LoveIsand”

Another added: “Like Maura but this is so sly, how can u watch a girl cry about a boy to try and graft him SNAKE”

A third commented: “Maura wanting to crack on with Curtis is such a snake move, but damn it’s keeping the season afloat #loveisland”

And a fourth said: “Said it all along, Maura is the biggest snake in there. CLEARLY she feels like girl code doesn’t apply to her #loveIsland”

According to Gen Twenty: “Girl code is the unwritten and often unspoken set of rules/ethics that exist between a girl and her best friends. Simply stated, girl code are the commandments that outline the DO’s and DON’T’s of a good friendship. Whether the rules are implicit or explicit, they are generally what can make or break a friendship.”

Maura previously expressed that she is a firm believer in girl code during an intense chat with Elma Pazar, who admitted that she was interested in Tom Walker, despite Maura ‘claiming’ him.

During the conversation, which occurred nearly three weeks ago, Maura accused Elma of going back on her word as she slammed: “You said you weren’t interested.”

Elma, 26, replied bluntly: “I wasn’t interested.”

Maura hit back: “But you are now? We’re friends and I know if I was in your situation and a guy came in that you liked, I wouldn’t do that.”

She added “If Tom wanted you, what would you do?”

Elma replied: “We get on but I made it clear that I wouldn’t want to tread on your toes.”

And Maura said: “Girl code. I just wouldn’t. I don’t want to get into another love triangle especially with my friend.”

However, days later Elma was sent home and Maura recoupled with Tom, but their relationship was short lived and the model was sent packing during a vote by the other islanders.

Prior to this, Maura had her eye on Tommy Fury, despite him being coupled up with Molly-Mae Hague.

Maura’s behaviour with Tommy was the subject of nearly 500 complaints to telly watchdog Ofcom after she straddled and tried to kiss him.

Although, despite being unlucky in love so far in the villa, Maura has quickly become popular with fans of the show.

Actress and comedian Amy Schumer, 38, declared her love for the Irish grid girl, 28, in a specially recorded message for last night’s AfterSun.

She gushed: “I’m loving this season of Love Island. I want to give a shout out to Maura.

“She’s just like my homie, I feel very connected to her.”
