VALE – Penny De Kauwe

0

It is with great sadness that we learn of the passing of well known Sydney-based dance Teacher, Penelope [Penny] De Kauwe - peacefully on the afternoon of Wednesday 31st January, 2018.

Penny commenced her association with dance while living in England and after moving to Australia she opened her own studio in Canberra in 1980 and which she operated very successfully, supported by husband David Gunasekera, for some 30 years.

As well as being a distinguished DanceSport Australia accredited dance coach and competition adjudicator, Penny was an examiner in three styles of dancesport with DSA, and with the Federal Association of Teachers of Dancing where for a number of years served on its Board of Directors.

Together with David and the FATD she was at the helm of the hugely successful National Capital Championships - held in Canberra at both the Great Hall of Parliament House and the AIS Stadium for 20 years until retiring 2010. The memories of this achievement and Penny’s many years as a coach, adjudicator, examiner and mentor to many will remain as a testament to a great contributor to life, dance and dancesport in Australia.

May she rest in peace
