Road rides for Outer Ring riders

0 4

In the past there have been road rides for Outer Ring riders. The club is currently looking to guage interest in restarting these rides.

There is the option of a ride this Sunday morning, 29 September 2024, as a trial ride if there is interest. Details will be provided by messaging coach Kevin Phillips directly or joining the WhatsApp group that will be setup for these rides. We are looking at riding 50-70km depending on the make up of the group, a route will be shared before the ride.

The rides are predominantly for OR riders 12 and older (with parental permission). If your child is riding at OR, is under 12 and interested in joining rides then please message Kevin to discuss their road riding experience and suitability for joining the rides.

Please note the rides are not coached sessions and there is not an organiser with legal responsibility for other riders. A club ride is simply a group of riders on a joint excursion on the open road which may include sections on busy roads and descents. Riders participate at their own risk and are expected to obey the Highway Code at all times.

There will be no charge but the nature of these rides is that a higher level of self-sufficiency is required. This means riders should be capable of safe return if they become separated from the group and that suitable clothing and equipment are used. Saying that, club representatives will be present and will ride to keep the group together and to lend a hand to those who need it.

These are club rides and not coached sessions, so will be a more continuous ride, with limited stopping. The aim is to ride as a group with no-one left behind! You will need to ensure your bikes are road worthy, this includes using tyres that are not worn or suffering cuts and nicks. You will need a spare inner tube, tyre levers, pump and suitable clothing for the conditions.

If any members are unsure about whether it is suitable for them, or if any parents are interested in joining the rides, or of you have any other questions then please contact Kevin Phillips via the PPYCC WhatsApp group chat. If you are not on WhatsApp then email chair@ppycc.co.uk and your message will be forwarded to Kevin.
