Edinburgh Spokes Cycle Map – new edition

0 17

The 11th edition of our highly praised Edinburgh Cycle Map is out!! The entire city was surveyed by Spokes volunteers, and the map then completely revised and updated by a skilled cartographer from our maps group.

Also used by walkers, the map is invaluable for everyone seeking safe routes to shops, work or school and for leisure route planning – and for other imaginative purposes!

The map includes several valuable new features, including…

  • All new housing developments since our last edition
  • Contours and shading, to identify gradients and hills
  • Rural West Edinburgh – between South Queensferry and Newbridge
  • Printed on water and tear-resistant synthetic paper’ (a recyclable polythene)

Spokes maps of Edinburgh and the Lothians have now sold over 140,000 copies since the first Edinburgh edition. This is no surprise, given the high praise they receive…

  • Your maps are invaluable and the detail amazing, far better than any other commercially available maps
  • After years with online maps, was surprised how much I preferred a real one
  • Just bought my first Spokes map- what a terrific buy!

The map was launched at Edinburgh City Chambers, with Council Leader Adam McVey, Deputy Leader Cammy Day, Spokes members, and supporters from Sustrans and FarrOut Deliveries.

In addition to the map, Spokes will be selling buffs (snood/ face covering) featuring an extract from the map. Unfortunately these will not be available until mid December.

Thanks

The map is entirely volunteer-produced – surveying, design and layout, launching and distribution to shops – everything except the specialist printing.

In addition to the extensive information gathered by our volunteer surveyors, Edinburgh Council transport staff provided information about existing and planned routes, and we thank Sustrans Scotland and Cycling Scotland for contributions to the substantial printing costs. Several important Sustrans NCN routes run through the area covered by the map, whilst Cycling Scotland provides advice and funding to workplaces, schools, colleges, communities and others to support local bike travel.
