Saint John, N.B., to host 2027 BKT World Men’s Curling Championship
Curling’s elite men’s teams will converge on Saint John, N.B., for the 2027 BKT World Men’s Curling Championship, it was announced jointly today by World Curling and Curling Canada.
The championship will be played March 27-April 4 at TD Station in Saint John, and will be the first World Men’s Championship to be played under a new format announced last month that will feature an 18-team field, including the host team from Canada.
“It has been over 10 years since we hosted a World Curling event in Saint John and we are looking forward to returning for the BKT World Men’s Curling Championship in 2027,” said Eeva Roethlisberger, Head of Competitions for World Curling. “Previous events hosted there have been a major success, and we are certain together we will produce a fantastic competition for the top men’s teams in the world.”
Today’s announcement also confirmed that BKT will continue in its role as title sponsor of World Men’s and Women’s Championship events played in Canada through to 2028.
“This is truly a good-news day all around, and we’re very thankful to our partners at both World Curling and BKT for their continued faith in our ability and commitment to hosting world-class championship events,” said Nolan Thiessen, Chief Executive Officer of Curling Canada. “The bid from Saint John was superb, and based on that community’s support of major events in the past, and support of the City of Saint John and Province of New Brunswick, we’re confident that the 2027 BKT World Men’s Curling Championship will be a major success on and off the ice.”
Saint John is no stranger to hosting World Championships. In 1999, when the World Men’s and Women’s Championships were a combined event, Scotland’s Team Hammy McMillan and Sweden’s Team Elisabet Gustafson claimed the gold medals. Fifteen years later, at the 2014 World Women’s Championship, Switzerland’s Team Binia Feltscher came out on top.
“The City of Saint John has a long history of supporting major sporting events, and we believe the 2027 BKT World Men’s Curling Championship will further enhance our city’s reputation as a vibrant and welcoming destination for athletes, coaches, volunteers, and spectators alike,” said City of Saint John Mayor Donna Noade Reardon. “We also recognize the lasting legacy that the event will leave, both through the volunteer opportunities it will create and the long-term impact it will have on curling programs in our region.”
“The Indigenous Tourism Association of New Brunswick (ITANB) looks forward to offering guidance and support to ensure meaningful Indigenous representation and collaboration throughout the planning and delivery of the event,” said Kayla Johnson, ITANB’s Executive Director. “We welcome the opportunity to work together in integrating authentic Indigenous perspectives and experiences into the programming, ceremonies, and overall event environment.”
In addition to those previous World Championship events, Saint John has also hosted the 1947 Brier, the 1963 Canadian Women’s Championship, two editions of the Canadian Mixed Championship (1971, 1983), the 1977 Canadian Under-20 Women’s Championship, the 1981 Canadian Under-20 Men’s Championship, the 1974, 1980 and 1995 Canadian Senior Men’s Championships and the 1995 Canadian Senior Women’s Championship.
“It is an absolute honour to support the Saint John region in hosting the 2027 BKT Men’s World Curling Championship,” said the Honourable Aaron Kennedy, Minister of Local Government, speaking on behalf of the Minister of Regional Development. “Major international sporting events like this play a vital role in boosting our tourism economy. They also ignite a passion within New Brunswickers to explore new sports and inspire dreams of competing on a global stage like this in the future. This investment will strengthen our communities.”
TD Station opened in 1993, and seats around 6,300 in its hockey configuration. It’s the home arena for the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League’s Saint John Sea Dogs.
“As the lead agency for regional economic growth, we understand the powerful impact that hosting high-profile sporting events like the 2027 BKT World Men’s Curling Championship have on our community,” said Andrew Beckett, Chief Executive Officer of Envision Saint John: The Regional Growth Agency. “We actively work to attract major events that generate economic impact and showcase our region as a premier host destination. We are honoured to welcome World Curling, Curling Canada and curling fans from across the globe to the Saint John Region.”
BKT’s connection with curling began in 2020, when the company first joined as co-title sponsor of the Continental Cup in London, Ontario. Since then, this partnership has evolved into a long-standing alliance built on shared values, passion, and a genuine love for the sport. As the Title Sponsor of the World Men’s and Women’s Championships held in Canada since 2024, BKT has proudly supported the athletes, fans, and communities that make curling truly special.
“We are delighted to renew our role as Title Sponsor for the 2027 World Men’s and 2028 World Women’s Curling Championships,” said Lucia Salmaso, Managing Director of BKT Europe. “For us, it’s much more than a sponsorship: it’s a long-standing relationship built on trust, respect, and shared enthusiasm. Curling reflects the same values that drive BKT: teamwork, integrity, and perseverance. Looking back at our journey, every championship has been a celebration of skill, passion, and connection, reminding us why we fell in love with this sport. And looking ahead, we’re proud to keep that spirit alive and continue raising the bar together with World Curling and Curling Canada.”

The Canadian team will be decided at the 2027 Montana’s Brier, presented by AGI, scheduled for Feb. 26-March 7 in Saskatoon.
“It’s always a thrill to have the opportunity to host a major curling event, and to know that World Curling and Curling Canada have placed their trust in the Saint John curling community,” said Ron Hutton and Bill Ayles, vice-chairs of the Saint John host committee. “We know our volunteers and fans will make the 2027 BKT World Men’s Curling Championship a wonderful experience for everyone who attends.”
“What an exciting day for our province and the curlers, curling fans and volunteers here in New Brunswick,” added Stephen Thompson, President of the New Brunswick Curling Association. “We all know there is a lot of work to be done between now and March 2027, but we also all know that there is a commitment to excellence in our province that will pay off with a memorable championship for athletes, coaches, volunteers and fans.”
