Magnus Carlsen announces his statement(s) for the coming days: I want cheating in chess to be dealt with seriously

Magnus Carlsen won the Julius Baer Generation Cup today after he convincingly defeated his younger opponent Arjun Erigaisi in the two-day final match.

Being asked if the whole “Carlsen – Niemann controversy” motivated him more to play good, Magnus said: “I cannot say that 100%, but I haven’t felt less motivated“. He added that he will publish the statement on the whole case very soon and that will not be the only what we can hear from him on the topic: “I will say a little bit more (on the case) whether it’ll be tomorrow or one of the days after. I generally want cheating in chess to be dealt with seriously. We will see what happens, I will certainly pull put out the statement very soon, and that will also not be the only you hear from me on the topic“. See the complete interview below

After losing to Hans Niemann in the third round of the Sinquefield Cup 2022, Magnus Carlsen decided to withdraw from the event. Two weeks later, he refused to play against Niemann and resigned his game in the Julius Baer Generation Cup after only two played moves. The controversy over the Carlsen – Niemann case was developing day after day (scroll down for full timeline), and the International Chess Federation reacted with an official statement  announced that FIDE is prepared to task its Fair Play commission with a thorough investigation of the incident.
