Prime's Most Underrated Show Is 'Reacher' Meets 'Peaky Blinders' With a Killer Soundtrack
Are you missing both Reacherand Peaky Blinders at the same time? Right now, a series that many have slept on is streaming on Prime Video, which will satisfy both cravings. Debuting last month on Prime Video, the Guy Ritchie show Young Sherlock mixes the retro-crime vibe of Peaky Blinderswith the slow-burn detective skills of various Reacher adventures. Recently, ScreenRantpointed out that Bosch is sort of like a Reacher-meet-Sherlock vibe, which is true enough.
But the Reacher connection to Young Sherlock exists too, and that's because, contrary to some of the perceptions that Reacher is a big action show about a massive dude kicking ass, the true inspiration for Jack Reacher is Sherlock Holmes.
The Reacher-Sherlock Connection
Speaking at Men's Journal in 2025, Reacher creator Lee Child pointed out that his original inspiration for Jack Reacher was, in fact, inspired by Sherlock Holmes, way back in 1997 with the first novel. "It was a very conscious homage on my part," Child told Men's Journal. "In Killing Floor, I did an explicitly Sherlock Holmes thing where Reacher says to Finley the cop, ‘I see that you’re divorced and you gave up smoking in April.’ That was Reacher deducing like Holmes."
Many Reacher fans have noticed other connections between the two heroes, from a shared eccentricity to both men being minimalists, and yes, to their physicality, too. Hero Fiennes Tiffin might have complained to Men's Journalthat his version of Sherlock got punched in the face a lot, but in general, some fisticuffs are a big part of the original Holmes stories, and certainly one of the reasons the character is considered so formidable.
Young Sherlock's Connection to Peaky Blinders
Although Young Sherlock is set in a much earlier era than the original Peaky Blinders (1870s versus 1919), both are kick-ass historical dramas dealing with the U.K. around the turn of the century. Fiennes Tiffin's cap in Young Sherlock certainly has a bit of a Tommy Shelby vibe, and, on top of that, the slickly anchoristic contemporary rock music in Young Sherlock will remind certain fans of the type of music in Peaky Blinders, particularly the recent film The Immortal Man.
While Young Sherlock is a little cheekier and Peaky Blinders is a bit more earnest, if you squint, the two shows share some kind of brotherhood. Or, at the very least, Young Sherock is a happy-go-lucky cousin of Peaky Blinders.
