'Spaceballs' Sequel Release Date Confirmed

The 1987 film Spaceballs is a cult classic that has gone down as one of the top satirical movies of all time. Now, the highly anticipated sequel officially has a release date.

While the sequel to the beloved film was announced back in 2024, it is now slated to hit theatres across the country in the spring of 2027.

While nothing is known about the plot of the sequel to Spaceballs, the film is set to include some returning characters as well as some new faces.

Mel Brooks, Rick Moranis, Daphne Zuniga, Bill Pullman, and George Wyner are all set to reprise their roles from the original film while the new film will also welcome newcomers to the cast, including Josh Gad, Keke Palmer, Lewis Pullman and Anthony Carrigan.

Gad is also one of the writers of the script, Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez. Back in 2024, he said tha the script for the film might be "the funniest and best thing" he's ever worked on.

"Just handed in a film script that I think may be the funniest and best thing I’ve ever worked on and I am so freaking excited. Working with my boys [Hernandez] and [Samit] has been heaven on Earth and many other planets as well. Love you boys!" Gad wrote in a post on Instagram.

Release Date Confirmed

While plot details of the Spaceballs sequel have not been revealed, nor has the official title of the upcoming film, we do at least have an official release date.

This week, Gad took to social media to confirm that the film will be released around this time next year on April 23, 2027.

“May the April 23rd, 2027 be with you!!!” Gad wrote in a post on Instagram.

Again, there have not been many details about the upcoming film other than the cast, but Gad has continually expressed his excitement.

"I'm beyond excited for this," Gad wrote back in 2024. "If someone were to have told the 8-year-old me I would get to watch a new Spaceballs movie, let alone have the honor of working on it, I would have used the Schwartz against you. And using the Schwartz is exactly what Mel Brooks, Josh Gad, and Amazon MGM Studios will be doing in theaters in 2027! This is a day one, must see release! If this is not the best announcement of the year, I'm not sure what is!"

Now, Gad and fans just have to wait another year.
