Is 'Entourage' Getting a Reboot? If so, 'It Can't Be the Same Thing'
The cast of Entourage weighed in on a reboot sometime in 2024. In short, the cast is ready for a reboot. So much so, a few of them had thoughts on where the cast would be right now.
That was then, and this is now, and the buzz is not going away.
Case in point: Adrian Grenier, who played Vincent Chase for eight seasons on the hit HBO series, recently spoke with Us Weekly while attending the Self Custody premiere at SXSW in Austin, TX, and revealed he wants the Entourage reboot to happen.
What Vincent Chase Thinks Today About the Crew
"I would love to do the show again, obviously," Grenier told the outlet. "You know, I'm torn because it's an iconic show that defined an era. I don't know how we would do that today, because we'd have to address a lot of things that are current."
Entourage starred Grenier as Vinny Chase, and his, yes, entourage -- Kevin Connolly as Vinny's manager, Eric "E" Murphy, Jerry Ferrara as Vinny's childhood friend/driver, Turtle, and Kevin Connolly as Vinny's much older brother, Johnny "Drama." The show also stars Jeremy Piven as Ari Gold, Vinny's super agent, who is loosely based on the real-life super agent and Endeavor CEO Ari Emanuel.
The show, of course, is based on Mark Wahlberg's rise to stardom. It was created by Doug Ellin, who was the showrunner for eight seasons before it ended in 2011. The hit series also spawned a movie. While the show earned critical acclaim, it also earned criticism for its crass approach to casual sex and women.
Perhaps that's exactly why Grenier feels a reboot would have to be drastically different.
"I think it can't be the same thing, because it was so tied to that time," he told Us Weekly. "It's a time and a moment and a vibe that I don't think you can replicate."
Where 'Entourage' cast would be today
Grenier hints that artificial intelligence would play a huge role in where the cast finds itself in the present, trying to navigate Hollywood.
Grenier's Self Custody co-star Garrett Patten has an idea, too.
"Here's my idea: They say that Vinny Chase disappeared to Texas to live on a ranch for the last 10 years, and the guys go back to revive him and bring him back to Hollywood, and the gang gets back together again to take over the time," Patten revealed to Us Weekly. "They find Adrian, he's got a beard, and he's living out on the ranch, and they clean him up and bring him back to Hollywood."
If this idea sounds familiar, it's because Grenier's character lives this exact storyline after his self-funded Medellin movie bombs at the Cannes Film Festival, forcing Vinny and Turtle to seclude themselves in Mexico, before "E" and "Drama" drag a heavily bearded Vince back to Hollywood in the season 5 premiere.
In any event, before Entourage gets a reboot, Hollywood big shots need to come calling, and it seems Grenier is doing his part to continue the buzz.
"If the fans demand it, we have to do it," he says. "That's just how it works."
He added, "I think we need the script and we need the money. That's how it works. That's just the biz. Maybe we ask AI."
