Joe Rogan's Off-the-Wall 'Vitamin You Didn't Know You Needed' for Mental Health
Joe Rogan has welcomed a broad range of guests to his hit podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience, so it’s not surprising that the conversations can go a number of different directions. However, one previous conversation has resurfaced because of a unique piece of mental wellness advice Rogan offered, citing a "vitamin" that you never truly knew you needed.
Best of all? Following Rogan’s tip for the surprisingly impactful change won’t cost you adding another supplement to your daily routine. It’s not your typical store-bought vitamin; instead, it’s a drastic change of scenery that Rogan highly recommends.

The comedian, podcast host and UFC commentator gave a blunt assessment of how impactful leaving the city and spending time in the woods can be for a person's mental health. During the conversation with Ryan Callaghan on The Joe Rogan Experience, the host explained that leaving the city and being in the woods is "like a vitamin you didn’t know you needed."
"Too many people just don’t go out, they don’t know how amazing it is (to get away from the city)," Rogan said. "It’s like a vitamin you didn’t know you needed. You get into the real wild, the real woods, it’s some kind of a nutrient that you didn’t know you needed."

The science backs him up. Sunlight exposure triggers the production of vitamin D in the skin, supports serotonin synthesis (the brain's "feel-good" chemical), and helps regulate circadian rhythms. Not surprisingly, all of these things are critical factors to improving mental health. Unlike supplements, it's accessible to everyone and requires zero trips to the vitamin aisle.
Getting sunlight also provides benefits that pills can't replicate. Natural light exposure helps reset your internal clock, improving sleep quality and energy levels throughout the day.
While Rogan has consistently been open and vocal about any supplements he takes, he’s also frequently vouched for free, fundamental approaches like sunlight, sauna sessions and cold plunges. These foundational practices, he argues, should come before you start building a supplement stack.
The long and short of it is that before you target a real vitamin to add to your daily routine, try stepping outside and spending some time away from the noise. You might be surprised how much your brain thanks you.
