Netflix Shares New Title, Premiere Date, and Trailer for Will Ferrell Golf Comedy
Will Ferrell never fails to give fans a solid dose of humor with his memorable characters. The actor, comedian, and producer has starred in so many beloved hits, including Anchorman, Step Brothers, Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, Blades of Glory, The Other Guys, Elf, Daddy’s Home, You’re Cordially Invited—and the list goes on.
Will Ferrell will be back at it again summer 2026 in a new Netflix golf comedy, The Hawk. In addition to being one of the executive producers for the series, Ferrell also takes on the starring role of golfer Lonnie “The Hawk” Hawkins, “2004’s number one golfer.”

Be sure to put on your sunglasses for the 10-episode season, because a sneak peak reveals Lonnie rocking a fuchsia polo shirt, sun visor, curly bleached hair, and matching goatee. (We may have even spied with our little eyes a puka shell necklace.) Let’s get real: Only Will Ferrell could successfully pull off this kind of look.
And the humor has already begun with the voiceover in the first official trailer: “This summer, a legend returns. An icon. A champion. An American hero. His name: Lonnie ‘The Hawk’ Hawkins.”
Ferrell’s character adds at the end, “That’s me. I’m him. That’s who they’re talking about. If you’re wondering.” (There was no doubt in our minds, Lonnie!)
Although there aren't a ton of secrets divulged in the trailer, The Hawk is giving off some Happy Gilmore vibes with its pro golf theme.
According to the show’s logline, “Lonnie struggles on the back nine of his career to recapture his magic. His body says retire, but his heart says he’s not done yet. His ex-wife Stacy (Molly Shannon) and his son Lance (Jimmy Tatro), golf’s new golden boy, know he’s through. But with one more major to win to complete golf’s Grand Slam, Lonnie refuses to believe he’s anything other than one stroke away from the greatest comeback in golf history.”
The Cast of The Hawk
Some tidbits about the cast? The series serves as somewhat of a reunion for Ferrell and Shannon. Both actors appeared on Saturday Night Live in 1995, delivering hilarious sketches.
Other notable actors in the series include Luke Wilson (a pro golfer rival), Chris Parnell (PGA tour official), Fortune Feimster (caddie), David Hornsby (dating Lonnie’s ex-wife), and Katelyn Tarver (Lonnie’s future daughter-in-law).
Lonnie is not the first extremely confident sports role Ferrell has portrayed. The actor starred in Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby and took on the role of NASCAR sensation, Ricky Bobby.
Fans Can Hardly Wait
Fans are excited, to say the least.
One Reddit user commented, “This looks hilarious, can't wait to check this one out in the summer, and the trailer voice is such a throwback. I remember that voice was very prominent in 2000s film trailers!” Another user noted that they wish the series would be a movie.
Our advice to the other golfers on the course? Beware, because Lonnie is on the green.
