Boston Singer Tommy DeCarlo Cause of Death Confirmed

Boston frontman Tommy DeCarlo reportedly died following a battle with brain cancer, his family have confirmed on social media (via TMZ).

The beloved singer was reportedly suffering from two cancerous masses on his brain, which ultimately caused his death on March 9. "He fought with incredible strength and courage right up until the very end," his family wrote in a joint statement.

According to the Daily Mail, the DeCarlo family had previously set up a GoFundMe for the rock star following his diagnosis. The fundraiser collected over $56,000 prior to his passing, which has helped the family pay for his continued treatment.

On the website, the family also shared details of DeCarlo's illness.

"In late September, [DeCarlo] suffered a sudden brain bleed and underwent an emergency craniotomy," the statement confirms. "During surgery, doctors discovered two melanoma masses on his brain and another spot on his lungs."

Brain melanoma is a severe form of cancer that typically begins as a skin cancer before metastasizing throughout the body. It is generally treated with immunotherapy and surgery, though its aggressive nature leaves mortality rates dangerously high.

"He amazed us by recovering from the surgery and beginning treatment, but before he could complete it, he had another brain bleed and was hospitalized from November 27th to December 27th."

The family confirmed that, as of December 2025, DeCarlo was still undergoing inpatient treatment to contain the cancer and prevent further spread.

DeCarlo's relatives thanked those who donated to his GoFundMe, noting that "it has lifted him up during the hardest moments and reminded him he’s not fighting alone."
