Paul Simon was a perfect candidate for this. His career began in the mid-60s as a part of Simon & Garfunkel, and later branched out with solo singles such as "Me and Julio Down By The School Yard" and "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover". Throughout the '80s, he found massive commercial success with Graceland and the several radio hits it produced.

By the '90s, his career had undeniably begun to slow down. He was still massively popular among his established fans, but Simon hadn't released any new music that was charting as highly for many years.

MTV Unplugged came at the perfect time to essentially bring Simon back into the public spotlight and close the most successful chapter of his career with class and charisma. The performance reminded audiences why they'd fallen in love with his music in the first place, with its dense lyrics and simple, charming guitar sounds.
