Martin Short's Daughter Katherine Dies at 42: Cause of Death Revealed
Katherine Short, daughter of famed comedian Martin Short, has died at age 42. TMZ broke the story, reporting that Katherine took her own life via a self-inflicted gunshot wound, per law enforcement.
Both the Los Angeles Police Department and the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to her home on Monday night, Feb. 23. She was found dead on the scene.
Katherine was one of Martin and his late wife Nancy Dolman's three adopted children, along with Oliver and Henry. According to People, she held a bachelor's degree in psychology and sexuality studies from NYU. She also held a master's in social work from USC. During grad school, she worked for Public Counsel and the West LA Veterans Administration. After graduating, she went to work at UCLA's Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital, followed by Camden Center.
Prior to her death, Katherine had a private practice where she worked as a licensed clinical social worker. In addition, she provided counseling and peer support at Amae Health and worked with the charity Bring Change 2 Mind.
Dolman died of ovarian cancer in 2010. "It's been a tough two years for my children," the Father of the Bride star told The Guardianin 2012. "[Death] is the thing of life that we live in denial about, that it will ever happen to us or our loved ones, and when it does you gain a little and you suffer a little. There's no big surprise."
Martin and Dolman had been together for 36 years. "I would have been divorced five times if I hadn't found the right person," he told The Guardian. "I wouldn't have faked it and played a game just because I didn't want to be divorced."
Per TMZ, the Only Murders In the Building star is set to perform in Minneapolis with Steve Martin on Saturday, Feb. 28. A spokesperson told the outlet the show might be canceled.
