Annie Guthrie Makes Decision With No Suspect Arrested in Nancy Guthrie's Case

0 2

Annie Guthrie, the daughter of missing Tucson grandmother Nancy Guthrie, made a decision to restrict public access to her family photos as the search for answers stretched past a week.

She removed from public view many of the photos of her husband, Tommaso Cioni, and her family from her Facebook page. One photo of Cioni is still visible on her page. It shows him outdoors in the snow. A post gushing about Cioni is no longer visible on her page, however. It’s not clear whether Annie, a poet, deleted or privatized the photos, which were visible for days after her mom’s mysterious disappearance. A highlight reel still visible on Annie's page contains one photo of Cioni, but a series of other pictures is no longer visible.

Meanwhile, authorities showed renewed interest in the home that Annie, a poet and author, shares with her teacher/poet husband Cioni, 50, and their son. To be clear, neither Annie Guthrie nor Cioni has been accused by authorities of any wrongdoing; it may be that she simply desires privacy for her family due to the extensive media attention focused on the case. In fact, authorities made it clear in a February 9 announcement that they don’t have any new developments to report in the bizarre disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, 84, the mother of Today Show co-host Savannah Guthrie.

On February 10, the FBI released surveillance images and videos of "showing an armed individual appearing to have tampered with the camera at Nancy Guthrie's front door the morning of her disappearance."

The Sheriff Says No Suspect Was Arrested in Nancy Guthrie’s Disappearance But Released New Surveillance Images

The front of Nancy Guthrie's home is seen on February 7, 2026 in Tucson, Arizona. The 84-year-old mother of U.S. journalist and television host Savannah Guthrie went missing from her home in the early hours of Sunday, February 1st.

Nancy vanished after having dinner with Annie and Cioni on the evening of January 31. Following the dinner and games at the Annie/Cioni home, Cioni drove Nancy home and made sure she was brought “safely” to her residence, The New York Times reported. That contradicted a report from US Weekly that Annie drove her mom home. Family reported Nancy missing the following morning, the sheriff said in a news conference.

In a February 9 update, far from an arrest, the Pima County Sheriff announced that authorities don’t even have a suspect in Nancy’s disappearance.

“Investigators have not identified any suspects, persons of interest, or vehicles connected to Nancy Guthrie. Anyone who believes they have information that may assist investigators is asked to contact 1-800-CALL-FBI or the PCSD non-emergency line at 520-351-4900, or 88-CRIME,” the sheriff wrote on X. The Pima County Sheriff also indicated that no press conference was scheduled because there has not been a "significant development" in the case.

That statement came after reporters captured videos showing the law enforcement presence at the Tucson home shared by Annie and Cioni, who has worked as a local biology teacher. Authorities have repeatedly stressed, in press conferences and on social media, that they do not have a suspect or person of interest in the case. The sheriff, Chris Nanos, has also stated that no person or theory is off the table.

“Law enforcement officials were seen at the home of Guthrie’s daughter Annie late Saturday,” CNN reported, reporting that “bright flashes” were seen from inside that were “possibly from authorities taking photographs.” Authorities have not confirmed why they were at the residence, however.

Meanwhile, an alleged deadline in one of the multiple purported ransom notes sent to authorities expired. Savannah Guthrie and her siblings have published videos pleading for information in the case. Authorities have said they are taking the ransom notes, which demanded Bitcoin, seriously, but it’s not clear whether they are from someone who truly has Nancy.

Annie Guthrie Posted About Her Husband, Tommaso Cioni, on Facebook Multiple Times

Which posts did Annie remove from public view? She had posted a series of photos over the years, showing her enjoying the outdoors and wine with Cioni. Other photos showed their trip to Tuscany. Cioni is from Italy. One photo showed Cioni, who plays in a band, holding a handful of berries.

“Happy TENTH Anniversary to the Meaning of my Life, Tommaso Cioni, the most beautiful, intelligent, sensitive, talented and also most hilarious person I am so blessed to know, and to be married to. I love you,” she wrote in 2020. That post is no longer available for public view, either.

Annie’s page also contained photos of their child and her mom, calling her the family’s north star. In addition, Annie gushed about Cioni in the posts.

“We really didn’t mean to be so puffy and matchy,” Annie wrote with a Facebook photo showing her and Cioni wearing matching winter jackets. “Fireworks,” she wrote with another photo showing her and Cioni drinking wine together.

“I was born in San Giovanni Valdarno on June 18, ’75. Since 2006, I have been living in Tucson, Arizona. I write when it happens. I study lizards. I play the electric bass. I make homemade pasta,” an old bio for Cioni says.

Where is Cioni now? That’s not clear; he hasn’t appeared in any of the siblings’ videos seeking information, but Savannah’s husband wasn’t in the videos, either.
