Savannah Guthrie Makes Decision on 2026 Olympics Amid Mom's Disappearance
Longtime Today anchor Savannah Guthrie is currently searching for her 84-year-old mother Nancy, who was reported missing in Arizona over the weekend. Nancy Guthrie's home is being treated as a "crime scene," investigators confirmed Monday.
Later this week, Savannah Guthrie was scheduled to head to Italy to co-host the 2026 Winter Olympics opening ceremony for NBC. However, she is not expected to make the trip under the circumstances, according to Page Six.
'No way' Guthrie will go to Milan
While Guthrie has not offered an official statement on her Olympic plans, an NBC source told Page Six there is "no way Savannah will be there."
The 54-year-old journalist, who has hosted Today since 2012, was chosen to anchor NBC's opening ceremony coverage alongside longtime colleague Terry Gannon and three-time Olympic gold medalist Shaun White.
“I couldn’t be more thrilled to host the Opening Ceremony alongside the incomparable Terry Gannon and snowboarding legend Shaun White,” Savannah said in a statement when her role was announced last September. “It’s such an honor to celebrate the world’s best athletes and introduce the magic and wonder of the Winter Games and northern Italy to viewers at home.”
The 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo will run from Feb. 6-26.
Search efforts for Nancy Guthrie continue
According to reports, Nancy Guthrie was last seen between 9:30 p.m. and 9:45 p.m. local time on Saturday night at her home in Arizona’s Catalina Foothills, just outside of Tucson.
When Nancy did not show up for church Sunday, it caused concern and led to her family reporting her missing. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said at a press conference Monday that Nancy "did not leave on her own."
Nanos added that while Nancy "is not in good physical health" and requires medication, she "has not cognitive issues at all."
"She’s as sharp as a tack. The family wants everyone to know that this isn’t someone who just wandered off," Nanos added.
Savannah speaks out
Nancy Guthrie's family is reportedly cooperating fully with investigators. Savannah did not appear on Today Monday morning, but did release a statement through the show.
“On behalf of our family, I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers, and messages of support," the statement reads. "Right now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear mom. We thank law enforcement for their hard work on this case and encourage anyone with information to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department at 520-351-4900.”
