David Jonsson and Aimee Lou Wood To Announce BAFTA Nominees
David Jonsson and Aimee Lou Wood have been selected to present this year's BAFTA nominees during a YouTube livestream on January 27.
Both young actors have been recent recipients of BAFTAs themselves, with Wood taking home the Best Female Comedy Performance Award in 2021 for her turn in Sex Education, and Jonsson winning the Rising Star Award just last year.
The announcement will take place at 12 p.m. U.K. (7 a.m. E.T.) at the British Academy's headquarters in London, though viewers across the world will be able to watch along via BAFTAs' official YouTube channel.
The first round of voting for this year's BAFTA ceremony has already taken place, with Paul Thomas Anderson's One Battle After Another leading the pack with 16 appearances across the longlist. Chloe Zhao's Hamnet and Ryan Coogler's Sinners follow closely behind with 14 appearances each.
Other films expected to perform strongly at this year's BAFTA ceremony include Josh Safdie's Marty Supreme, Yorgos Lanthimos' Bugonia, and Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein.
The second round of voting for the BAFTAs will close on 20 January, with the five most popular films in each category landing official nominations. The ceremony will then take place on 22 February at the Royal Festival Hall in London.
The awards mark the latest step towards the Oscars this March, with the Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards already having taken place. However, the BAFTAs are generally considered the least reliable precursors to predict the Academy Awards, especially given the voting body's significant overhall in 2020.
This year's lineup for the Rising Star Award has already been announced, with Chase Infiniti (One Battle After Another), Miles Caton (Sinners), Archie Madekwe (Lurker), Robert Aramayo (I Swear), and Posy Sterling (Lolipop) securing their nominations. Recent winners of the award include Mia McKenna Bruce, Emma Mackay, and David Jonsson.
