A ‘Certified Fresh’ Hit Hulu Series Debuts on Netflix This Week

0 1

Each month, Netflix brings in new content for its subscribers all around the world. New series, films, documentaries, reality shows and more populate the service, helping it maintain its place in the streaming hierarchy.

Few streaming services have become as popular and ubiquitous as Netflix, but Hulu has stood firm as a major competitor. Netflix pioneered original streaming with shows like "House of Cards" and "Orange is the New Black," and Hulu responded with series like "The Handmaid's Tale" and "Only Murders in the Building."

The so-called streaming wars are entering a new phase, and one of those hit Hulu pillars will end up on Netflix in a matter of days. On January 7, an acclaimed Hulu series with serious star power will make its official Netflix debut.

"11.22.63," the acclaimed miniseries starring James Franco, will be available to stream for Netflix subscribers in the United States on Wednesday, January 7. Franco stars as a man who travels back in time to stop the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.

The show carries a "Certified Fresh" rating on review aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes, with 53 critics giving it a positive review. GQ's Jack Moore said that Franco's performance in the lead role is "vanity-free, indulgence-free...feels like the work of an Old Hollywood legend."

Television critic Alan Sepinwall said Franco was a "revelation." "He's an immensely talented actor," he added. "He's got the star quality you need to carry something this crazy, and this long."

"11.22.63" premiered on February 15, 2016 and consists of eight episodes. Franco is joined by other notable names in the show, such as Josh Duhamel, Chris Cooper, Lucy Fry and George MacKay.

An Acclaimed Series for Stephen King Fans

The series is an adaptation of Stephen King's novel "11/22/63," released in 2011.

The book was a critical and commercial success, rising to the top of the New York Times' bestseller list where it stayed for 16 weeks. King won multiple awards for the book, including the 2011 Goodreads Choice Award for the best science fiction novel.

"11.22.63" on Netflix comes after the success of another King-related property in HBO's "It: Welcome to Derry." The horror series has yet to be confirmed for a second season, but its thrilling finale was watched by over 6.5 million viewers. The show's co-creator has also said that there are three seasons of content planned, giving King fans even more to look forward to.

All eight episodes of "11.22.63" will be available to stream on Netflix in the United States on Wednesday, January 7.
