National Weather Service Cautions Heavy Snow and High Winds as Rain Brings 'Life-Threatening' Risk

After days of being hit by a series of storms, an area of America will not be getting relief anytime soon. Instead, a region of the country will soon be rocked by snow, rain, and high winds, according to the National Weather Service. The agency also states that the area expected to receive rain could face "life-threatening" implications as flash flooding fears rise.

On December 25, 2025, at 1:04 PM EST, the X account for the National Weather Service Prediction Center published an image detailing a major storm warning. The warning emphasized that California will continue to be impacted by an atmospheric river that has been affecting the area. That image began with a very serious description of the dangers that could affect the residents of Southern California.

"Further life-threatening flash flooding is possible in Southern California through tonight. Additional rounds of heavy rain and scattered instances of flash flooding are expected from the California coast through the Central Valley through tonight with some localized heavy rain on Friday."

In addition to the possibly "life-threatening" rain and flash flooding that will hit the state, other regions of California are also expected to have to continue coping with snow and winds. As a part of the same National Weather Service storm warning posted on X, the agency also detailed the kinds of storms other areas of California can expect in the coming hours. Under a section of the National Weather Service's warning labeled "Heavy Mountain Snow Through Tonight," it describes the snowfall expected to hit the mountainous regions of California that will slow over the coming hours.

"Heavy snow persists through tonight over the Sierra Nevade and far Northern CA mountain ranges with snow levels continuing to lower. Travel will remain difficult to impossible over the passes due to snow and strong winds. More moderate snowfall rates are expected Friday before tapering off."

Finally, the winter storm warning had a section labeled "Strong Winds Through Today," which was aimed at California generally. That section warned residents to be aware of difficult travel conditions, damage to trees, and potential power outages that could all be caused by the winds.

"Windy condition continue across California today, which along with saturated soils, many cause futher tree damage and power outage. Difficult travel also persists, especially for high-profile vehicles."
