Margot Robbie's Star-Studded Box Office Flop That Reportedly Lost $87 Million Is Finally Coming to Netflix
Even though Margot Robbie is still relatively early in her career, she has already proved that she is a fantastic actor who deserves to go down in the annals of Hollywood history. Fortunately, Robbie's roles in movies like Barbie, Suicide Squad, The Wolf of Wall Street, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and I, Tonya have helped build her career and legacy.
Of course, any actor who has starred in a slew of films is bound to headline at least some movies that fail to connect with audiences. Still, one of the movies that Robbie starred in utterly flopped in a way that cost the studio behind it a fortune. Now, that film that was a complete failure at the time is coming to Netflix.

On November 30, 2025, Netflix's official website published an article revealing what new titles will be arriving on the streaming service in December 2025. That article revealed that Babylonwould premiere on Netflix in America on December 7, 2025. That means that the movie became available to stream on Netflix for the first time in the United States today.
Originally given a wide release in American theaters on December 23, 2022, there had been an expectation that the movie would be a big deal. After all, the film starred Brad Pitt Margot, Robbie, Diego Calva, Jean Smart, Jovan Adepo, and Li Jun Li. Just as importantly, Babylon was written and directed by Damien Chazelle after he won an Academy Award for Best Director for his work on the critical and commercial hit La La Land.
Since Babylon wasn't a hit among moviegoers at the time of its release, that means that there are a lot of people who have never seen the film. Thanks to the fact that it is now available on Netflix, that means that millions of users can see Chazelle's vision for the film for the first time.

From the outside looking in, it is nearly impossible for observers to truly know how much money a movie earned or lost. After all, people who avidly follow the entertainment industry will likely know that Hollywood accounting can be incredibly difficult to unravel, even for insiders. That said, it is possible to for fans to get an idea of how a film performed financially.
According to the reported numbers, there is no doubt that Babylon fell wildly short of the studio's hopes for the project. After all, IMDb states that the movie was produced for an estimated $80 million and it only brought in a little bit more than $65 million at the worldwide box office. While those figures may make it seem like Babylon should have lost a little bit less than $15 million, that isn't the case for a simple reason. On top of spending a fortune producing Babylon, Paramount Pictures also paid millions more to promote the film.
In February 2025, CBR published an article looking at the factors that led to Babylon failing financially. That article stated that the film lost an estimated $87 million. While that figure definitely shouldn't be taken as a definitive number, that report does provide a ballpark idea of how unsuccessful Babylon was upon its release.
