A Michigan woman went on a late-night snack run, and it ended up netting her a $1 million lottery payday.

  • The story came from the Michigan lottery, which described the woman's lucky decision in a news release on November 19, 2025.

"A late-night food run led to a huge payday for a Kent County woman who won $1 million playing the Michigan Lottery’s Lady Luck 777 instant game," the lottery revealed.

The Michigan Woman Says She 'Woke Up Hungry Late One Night'

According to the lottery, the woman, who was not named, woke up hungry, so she went out for snacks.

“I woke up hungry late one night, so I went out on a food run,” the 53-year-old player, who chose to remain anonymous, said in the news release.

“While I was out, I bought a few lottery tickets and scratched them when I got home. It was shocking when I scratched off my Lady Luck 777 ticket and saw I’d won $1 million. I had a hard time going back to sleep that night," the woman added.

“It’s always fun to hear stories of how winners found out they won huge lottery prizes, like this one where a late-night food run turned into a $1 million win!” said Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli in the release. “Winning a big lottery prize when you least expect it is one of the many reasons instant games are a favorite among our players. Congratulations to the winner on her $1 million win!”

According to the Michigan lottery, the player "bought her winning ticket at D 28 Inc., located at 5 28th Street Southwest in Wyoming. She recently visited Lottery headquarters to claim the big prize. She chose to receive her prize as a one-time lump sum payment of about $693,000, rather than annuity payments for the full amount. She plans to save her winnings."

The woman was stunned by the size of the jackpot.

“I’m still in shock and it hasn’t fully sunk in that I won $1 million, so I haven’t made any special plans for the money just yet,” the player said, according to the release.

"Players have won more than $19 million playing Lady Luck 777, which launched in August. Each $10 ticket offers players a chance to win prizes ranging from $10 up to $1 million. More than $27 million in prizes remain, including two $1 million top prizes and 384 $1,000 prizes," the lottery says. "In 2024, Lottery players won nearly $1.8 billion playing instant games. Lottery instant games may be purchased at retailers across the state."

There have been other unique lottery stories in recent months. Another Michigan woman won a $100,000 prize and revealed she used ChatGPT to select the numbers,People reported.

And in Kentucky, a hunter won a $1.1 million lottery prize online after he rejected a call from his son while sitting in a deer stand.

“I’m in the deer stand, and I was sitting there, and I thought, you know what, I’m going to try,” he said. “I got on there, and I won $1,500, and I added another $200 to my account," the man said, according to WJHL.
