Disney+ Boss Bob Iger Reveals How AI Will Soon Transform the Streaming Service

0 26

On November 12, 2019, the entertainment world changed with the launch of Disney+. While films and shows produced by the media conglomerate had been available to stream before, it was the first time that so much of the company's content was available in one place.

Years later, Disney+ has become enough of a juggernaut that it is one of the most successful streaming services in the world. Based on recent remarks by Disney's CEO, Bob Iger, the company has high hopes that the streaming service could still become more successful. As the House of Mouse's boss revealed, the company hopes that AI will soon change Disney+ in ways that will make it more successful.

In November 2025, The Hollywood Reporter summarized comments that Disney's CEO, Bob Iger, made during the company's fourth-quarter and full-year 2025 earnings conference call. During Iger's speech, he revealed that Disney+ is poised to change dramatically soon.

"[Disney+ is] in the midst of rolling out the biggest and the most significant changes — from a product perspective, from a technology perspective — since we launched the service in 2019.”

Also during the same conference call, Iger spoke about how the company will interact with the advent of artificial intelligence in the future. Most notably for Disney+ users, Iger explained that the company intended for the streaming service's subscribers to be able to use AI to generate short-form content for them to watch. Furthermore, Iger also stated that Disney+ users will also get to enjoy short-form AI-generated content that will be created by other users.

“The other thing that we’re really excited about, that AI is going to give us the ability to do, is to provide users of Disney+ with a much more engaged experience, including the ability for them to create user-generated content and to consume user-generated content — mostly short-form — from others.”

If the plans for Disney+ to embrace AI-generated content play out as Iger teased, it will be fascinating to see how users and the public will respond. After all, there have been several instances of people being outraged when TV series or movies have used AI-generated content. For example, the news that Marvel's Secret Invasion TV series had AI-generated opening credits made many observers deeply upset, as a June 2023 Deadline article shows.

The Hollywood Reporter's article also reported that Iger said during the conference call that the company was having "productive conversations” with unidentified AI companies. Iger also made sure to explain that the talks were focused on ensuring that any agreement Disney would make with an AI company would, "reflect [Disney's] need to protect the IP.”

In November 2021, Netflix introduced the ability for users to download and play five mobile games as part of their subscriptions. Since then, the company has introduced an expanding list of games that their customers can play without any additional charges. As a November 2025 Deadline article about Bob Iger's aforementioned conference call shows, Disney+ will soon follow in Netflix's gaming footsteps.

In February 2024, a seperate Deadline article reported that Disney bought a stake in Epic Games for $1.5 billion. During Iger's November 2025 conference call, he revealed that the company intends to incorporate "game-like" features into Disney+ while taking advantage of its relationship with Epic Games.

“Obviously there is a huge opportunity for games and our investment with Epic Games, well that will largely be an opportunity to integrate game-like features into Disney+.”
