Why We Love This Deal

With more rain, if not snow, starting to pop up in forecasts across the country, shoppers have started to search for hiking boots, trail shoes, and duck boots, among other kinds of high-traction footwear. One name you wouldn't expect to hear in that realm is Vans, but the brand has been busy over the past few years with fresh designs ready to take on all kinds of terrain. Right now, one of them—a hybrid trail sneaker—is even on sale over at Zappos.

The Vans MTE Crosspath Mid is on sale for $98, a rare 30% discount from its normal price of $140. These mid-height boots feature grippy outsoles and a protective upper with a DWR coating, making them a smart choice for mild hikes or everyday wear in damp weather.

What Shoppers Should Know

  • Colorways Available: 2, both on sale
  • Sizes Available: 3.5-11
  • Best Use Case: Light hiking, everyday wear

According to Vans, the MTE Crosspath Mid is designed for both on- and off-pavement use. Its mid-top design adds extra protection around the top of your foot and ankle, and the padded collar ensures a comfy fit. The upper has overlays near the sole and across the toe box to stand up to scrapes and bumps, and it’s treated with a DWR finish to repel splashes and light moisture. There’s no waterproof membrane, however, so it won’t keep your feet completely dry in heavy rain or really wet conditions.

A big loop at the heel makes this mid-topper easy to pull off and on, and the UltraCush midsole pads every step. On the bottom, the lugged outsole bites into dirt for reliable grip, but the lugs are small enough to feel comfortable on concrete and hard surfaces, too.

Crucially, this is also a stellar price. REI has them listed for a few dollars less, but sizes are severely limited. Vans, on the other hand, has this exact style and colorway listed at full price.

What Shoppers Are Saying

Vans is known for its skate and casual shoes—people don’t typically go to this brand for hiking shoes. Despite that, shoppers have been pleasantly surprised with these beefed-up, hybrid sneakers.

One reviewer wore them on a hiking trip to Greece and was impressed with the Crosspath’s “lightweight” build and “very comfortable” feel. “Great shoes without having to spend hundreds of dollars,” they added. Another shopper took them on a 6-mile hike straight out of the box and loved their supportive and comfortable ride, calling them “perfect.”

Hiking boots and shoes usually come with a higher price tag, so nabbing the Vans MTE Crosspath Mid for under $100 is a stellar deal. Don’t miss out: Sizes are already going out of stock, so snag yours before they’re all gone.
