Brett Favre Makes Feelings on Bad Bunny Super Bowl Halftime Clear

0 21

Brett Favre doesn't appear to be a big fan of Bad Bunny. At the very least, the Hall of Fame quarterback wouldn't have picked the "King of Latin Trap" to be the halftime performer at Super Bowl LX.

Bad Bunny's selection as this year's halftime headliner was met with backlash from some corners, particularly among conservatives who did not appreciate the Bayamon, Puerto Rico native's outspoken criticism of President Donald Trump.

Favre, of course, is an ardent Trump supporter, having spoke at one of his rallies during the 2024 presidential campaign. At the end of this week's episode of the "4th & Favre" podcast, Favre's co-host David Kano asked the former Green Bay Packers superstar for his thoughts on the NFL's decision.

Favre would have gone in a different musical route

According to Kano's hypothetical, Favre had to put himself in NFL commissioner Roger Goodell's shoes and pick an artist for the halftime show.

"Does Brett Favre pick Bad Bunny or do you pick someone else to perform at the halftime of the Super Bowl in 2026?" Kano asked.

“I’d pick someone who — maybe Jason Aldean… someone who loves this country and that everyone could relate to,” Favre said. “I think Jason Aldean right now is as big a patriot and has a great voice.

"But I like George Strait – that’s old school. There’s a lot of choices out there. I remember when Whitney Houston sang the national anthem and I was blown away. If you didn’t have tears in your eyes watching and listening to that, something’s wrong with you. I envision a national anthem and a halftime show, they’re two different things but, it really grabs you."

While Favre did not mention Bad Bunny by name, it's clear the 31-year-old Latin rapper would not have been his pick.

There's actually a petition to replace Bad Bunny with George Strait

Last month, a woman named Kar Shell organized a petition on Change.org, requesting that the NFL replace Bad Bunny, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio, with Strait, one of country music's biggest legends.

While the petition is ultimately fruitless, it has accumulated over 110,000 signatures.

“The Super Bowl halftime show should unite our country, honor American culture, and remain family-friendly, not be turned into a political stunt,” the petition reads. “Bad Bunny represents none of these values; his drag performances and style are the opposite of what families expect on football’s biggest stage. Again, George Strait embodies unity, tradition, and the timeless American music that truly deserves the 2026 Super Bowl spotlight.”

Goodell: No halftime change forthcoming

At the October league meetings, Goodell squashed any speculation that the NFL regretted its decision to enlist Bad Bunny as Super Bowl LX's marquee performer.

“He’s one of the leading and most popular entertainers in the world. That’s what we try to achieve,” Goodell said at the time, via NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.

“We’re confident it’s going to be a great show and that he understands the platform that he’s on. I think it’s going to be exciting and a united moment,” the commissioner added.

Super Bowl LX is set for Sunday, Feb. 8, 2026 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
